Legislative Update: April 15, 2015

As a quick update to a few bills of interest to Montana community banks, the following happened on Tuesday:

  • Water Compact – on Monday, the House Judiciary Committee killed the CSKT water compact.  And as expected, the full House suspended the rules to allow the bill to come to the floor for a vote of the full House, thereby reviving the bill. The bill has enough votes to pass the House and, thus, as expected, will be sent to the Governor for the Gov’s expected signature.
  • The Senate concurred in the House Amendments made to SB 280, which is the Statute of Frauds/Morrow bill.  The vote was 33-17 in favor of the bill as amended.  As a result of that action, the bill will be sent to the Governor for action.  As you will recall, SB 281, the punitive damages reform bill, has already been sent to the Governor.
